Tooth Extraction

Wisdom teeth are the last of the teeth that becomes impacted sometimes, or stuck below the surface of your gums, causing complications.
Many people, however, develop impacted wisdom teeth — teeth that don't have enough space in the mouth to grow naturally thus creating complications.

An impacted wisdom tooth may:

  • Grow at an angle toward the next tooth (second molar)
  • Grow at an angle to the back of the mouth
  • Grow at a right angle to the other teeth,
  • Grow straight up or down like other teeth but stay trapped within the jawbone

What are the indications for the removal of the impacted wisdom teeth?

  • Pain
  • Infection
  • Damage to the next tooth
  • Development of a fluid-filled sac (cyst) around the wisdom tooth
  • Damage to surrounding bone
  • Complications with orthodontic treatments

Analyzing your condition, your dentist will recommend whether you require extraction or simply leave the wisdom teeth as it is.

Is extraction of teeth a painful procedure?

Relax! It’s totally a painless procedure. A patient needs to follow various pain management procedures before and after the extraction of the teeth. Before extraction it is always advised to start a course of antibiotics & analgesics to minimize the infection thereby reduce the pain. Also local anesthesia is given before the procedure thereby making it a relatively painless procedure. However proper post-extraction care is also required.

What is the post - extraction instructions?

  • It is recommended not to spit or talk for half an hour after the extraction of the tooth.
  • Apply ice from outside, i.e. externally in the area where the tooth was extracted.
  • No eating for half an hour.
  • Restrict your diet to something soft and cold for that particular day.
  • Continue the medicinies for the number of days as prescribed.
